I despise that I cannot see it enough. EVER. I am a very ugly, strange, white, longhaired, dirty, shitty tattoos, passionate, loving, <what most deem us I guess is crusty-hippies????> musician and crafter of physical media and believe in physical media with all my heart. Namely that thinks mostly about tape and tone textures.

I am literally dieing not being a part of a very special/ sacred/ loving/ weird/ fucking living in the truth 100% of the time people to form a community around my total vision I can see right now.

Its been a long dream, but I've been to much of a loner for that......NOW, I am ready.

I already do my own solo drone/ ambient/ occultic/ ritual/ noise project...all and only cassette tapes and I run a little micro-label of which I want to release all this from. I am growing in my contacts from around the world and want to experience more with others....playing that is....I want to start tomorrow I am that serious...... I want to pair my alone work with an improv collective so badly like asap. When I am ready, I am ready.

One quick note....when I can and hopefully soon almost 99% of my communication with outside world is moving here to focus as Shrouded Recordings grows.......SBTDOH is not at all the same thing as S. R. or S. R. Z.   but it is the same dude..... But I am gonna pull back from bandcamp and most things and try to deal directly with anyone who wants anything.   hopefully making it more of a postivie ideal experience with interactions and other rad stuff.

why make tapes?

So I posted this on a form topic about different types of releases....mostly an anti-tape thread.... I like my response so I decided to post it because I believe this is an important issue. I would love to dialog with any thoughtful person on this...

good cassettes are like life. if there is deterioration from use. that to me is a good thing. (it shows love and a tape worth investing yourself in for hours/days)  plus the degrading may have been started by the artist who never 'wanted' it to sound digital (more perfect lets say...) at all....

 I like the sounds that are crumbling apart just like this world and life as you get older. So sometimes you buy 2 copies and don't open one? (just an option to preserve a tape for many years with no deterioration??)

 I will die and my son will most likely get my collection of music which is a gigantically variations of records, tapes and cds. I want to get the music and I do prefer tapes now a days, I will get whatever is available. Music is the only thing I have spent money on since grade school *25 or so years??...

And as a producer of tapes only and as I run a zine that only has cassette tape reviews currently, I am allowed access to such more music based on a low income. Also, I get to hear lo-fi music from around the world on very small runs. Somehow a cd or cdr never gives any great feelings like they do.

And running a cassette tape only label is fun. I can do it without massive debt. I can also have creative control over everything. And some recordings you would never want to hear 'digitally,' they massively loose their charm.

Sure it would be rad to only put out vinyl. But that is not economically feasible and would just make it hard to get a tiny labels music 'out there' both for label and artist. I used to be a huge vinyl guy. But has become so hard for someone on a 'musicians' budget, or someone who does not make enough to spent $200- $300 on records every paycheck....

 But there is so much music I only want to hear from the artist by ordering their tape, rather than listening to on bandcamp. or any other digital option. (and I give away all the digital copies for this reason, I only charge for a tape because I spend a lot of time producing the whole release, music, art, what kind of packaging etc...

Just some thoughts. I admire your passion. that is great sometimes it just comes down to economics......again.

for me that is amazing to feel. regardless of how produced physically. The more important matter is the love for this music!!!

Hello Friends.
I am so deeply and utterly humbled by these 2 recent reviews from 'true readers' not some fancy papered magazine or ultra hip blog..my goal is to create community of folks like us by doing my zine, I think we are all together off to a great start!...I am sharing these purely to help anyone decide if they either would want to participate in future zines, or purchase one. With all the face-on-the-floor humility here are two:

AN EMAIL FROM A READER:
I just want to start by saying that I read through SR#2 more thoroughly, and although I do really appreciate that you value/respect my opinion enough to prepare yourself for potential negative judgements, I didn't find one fucking thing wrong with it. There were parts that could have been Xeroxed a little clearer, as to be more legible, but as far as actual content is concerned, I think you ought to give yourself a huge congratulation, because I have NEVER seen anything grow, improve, mutuate, transform, and spiral out of control (in a good way) so fast! The fact that you went from 4 pages to 24 in two fuckin' issues is just impressive beyond belief. There are a lot of zines other friends/allies/pen-pals of mine have put together in the past, but they never hit 24 pages, and never made it past a couple of issues which were all pretty similar. Shrouded Recordings gets it totally correct whereas other, smaller zines can sometimes feel like too much of a circle-jerk or back-patting party. Your zine interviews people from all sorts of music, and a ton that I don't know about beforehand, so is already more interesting by way of diversity and good selection of subjects. So it's functioning, for me, like a way to open my eyes and ears to shit I'd normally not be exposed to. Awesome! However, it's governed by your own personal wide scope of taste, so you can go from an interview with The Rita to Column Of Heaven (I had no idea they were affiliated with The Endless Blockade- so cool!) but still finish each interview feeling refreshed and inspired by the dedication of the artist to his craft, and even moreso by your heartfelt, touching, and incredibly serious array of questions (in presenting which, I loved how you mixed up the order for different interviews- brilliant!). I actually made a point of having a couple of my friends who aren't very familiar with noise-industrial-whatever-related music, and they still had really glowing praises to speak of SR#2. They were taken aback at how personal, intimate, and JUST FUCKING REAL everything was. There's no hipster artsy-fartsy shit, no fucking tough-guy macho posturing, no shit-talking, no ass-kissing, no vague abstract meaningless drivel, just straight to the point little poems about the sounds on the releases. Beautiful!!!

But, as before, it's your reviews which seem to illuminate the rest of the magazine for me, personally. They would not be considered academically or professionally typical reviews, as they deal mostly with the sounds' effect on you, rather than the actual qualities and effectiveness of the sound itself. I strongly and warmly welcome this approach over the latter, as I sometimes tire of the lack of emotion or personal connection within overly-analytical record reviews. Furthermore, the language you use and style in which you write is very quick, stream-of-consciousness, and emotional. I constantly am in awe of how much appreciation and gratitude is apparent in your reviews, every time I'm reading one, I find myself striving to put the same emotional investment into my own absorption of relevant sounds and music. Your reviews come straight from the heart, and are all the better for it. I love them, and I hope to read even more in the coming issues.

Just finished reading Shrouded Recordings #2. This is such a great zine! Thank you so much for trading with me. I hope you enjoyed New Hearts New Bones #17. I really enjoyed all the questions you asked and the your descriptions of the tapes. It is really neat to hear about all these bands I haven't heard of yet, and what books they read/art they like. I made a list of cool stuff/bands to check out after reading your zine. So I think that is pretty awesome. Thanks again for trading. I look forward to your next zine!

Contacting me by mail is the best way to correspond with the shrouded. While I have heard many things, this is a loose listing of the focus of the zine for clarification to anyone. To be considered in any way I do ask for a physical copy of your work. Whether it is music, art, zine  (adding a zine review section from here to eternity...) whatever. I am very open to consideration to anyone who takes the time to get involved. I cannot say it enough. The end goal of Shrouded Recordings Zine is to be a non-elitist community focused zine for folks like us....

 I cannot say it also enough how deeply humbled and thankful I am to everyone who has been previously involved, who is currently participating, whether being in the zine, distroing, sending an cultural artifact, whatever it is. I do my best to treat everyone the same way.......the way I would want to be treated. 

Zines #3 & #4 are going to be truly amazing. We will be unfolding a new consistent cover, and other features. If you would like to participate.....please do. I cannot do anything alone and I love making something I would be pumped to have....thats a goal of mine....hope to reach it some day.
